Camping by the Dordogne

The Périgord has 5 rivers to explore by canoe: the Dronne, the l’Isle, the Auvézère, the Dordogne and the Vézère. It's no surprise then that the department is the first French destination for the practice of recreational canoeing.

If spending waterfront holidays seems a good perspective to you, then you should definitely go camping by the Dordogne!

With the option of 5 rivers, there are about 70 canoe rentals to welcome you. It is perfectly safe for children also: security is everyone's top priority and you can always choose to be monitored and to have a certified instructor come along. Not to mention that the rivers of Perigord are very calm rivers, perfect for family outings.

They invite you to have a look at the Périgord differently while taking the time to let yourself go with the flow. You only have to lift your eyes to look up and admire classified villages like Beynac or Saint-Leons-sur-Vézère, historical sites like the Abbey of Brantôme and of course stunning riverbank scenery, a treasure hidden from those on the mainland. Going camping by the Dordogne doesn't necessarily require you turn into a mariner: our department has so many riches to discover, on the river banks or inland!

To facilitate your breaks when you spend a day on the water, mooring points were created on the banks of the five rivers. In total twenty nautical stops allow you to easily dock and alight for a picnic, a simple break or an exploration of the surroundings before you return to your canoe.

No matter were you set camp - at a campsite by the Dordogne or of one of the other 4 rivers in the department, you’ll find information on the closest canoe rental companies at the reception. Some campsites may even offer to make a booking for you, for a trip by canoe or kayak. And some others, located along the river, have their own canoe rental. Check the list below for more information.

Whatever campsite by the Dordogne or any other river you choose for a holiday in Périgord, like a natural site for tents and caravans or an upscale site with rental accommodations and swimming pool, you will always find a watercourse nearby where you can indulge in the joys of canoeing. If, however, you want to prepare your trip on the water in advance, this website will give you all the necessary information on canoeing in the department Dordogne: www.dordognecanoe.com
